What is the meaning of Safety?

Is the state of being protected and safe from risk, danger, and injury by applying safety protocols, risk assessment, training, and safety plans.

Why safety is important?

  • The direct pain-feeling effect exists in all types of injuries and varies according to the injury type and its severity starting from small injuries to fatality. But finally, it is pain. although the existence of health, insurance is a cost and losing money to the company or the injured person.
  • Losing full or partial salary for staying at home as a result of injury.
  • productivity decreases as letting someone else do his job or activities makes him overloaded and finally decreases productivity.
  • Unhappiness for the injured person and his family and relatives as well as the person who took his place at work.

What are the types of hazards?

  • contact with chemicals that affect skin disorders, scratches, poisoning, sensitization, and carcinogenic
  • exposure to radiological. it causes skin burning and radiation poisoning caused by high doses of ionizing radiation for a short time. cancer and cardiovascular diseases could exist at long-term exposure.
  • Electrical hazards. it leads to skin burning and electrical shock when contacting electrical live parts.
  • fire hazard exists experiencing to faulty equipment and electrical short circuits.
  • mechanical hazards like rotating machines and moving parts. sliding parts and up/down motion are considered also mechanical hazards.
  • Biological hazards. Biological hazards are the hazards resulting from living organisms that produce hazardous materials. These hazardous materials can enter the human body by touching or breathing when working with infected people, animals, and plant materials.
  • Earthquake hazards are physical hazards that have a high level of risk. earthquake risks could be listed as crushing, getting buried under a landslide, and burning in a fire.

What is the meaning of  Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs)?

(PPEs) are tools worn to minimize injuries and illnesses at the workplace. it should be designed and fabricated, and fit comfortably to ensure maximum protection. it should also kept in a good and clean condition to be ready any time called for use.

  • Safety helmets for head protection.
  • Safety glasses for eye protection.
  • Safety gloves for hand protection and electricity isolation.
  • Safety shoes.
  • Earplugs and muffs.
  • Respiration equipment.
  • Vests and special full-body suits.

What are the types of safety?

there are main 3 types of safety:

Home safety.

There are many hazards at home like fall hazards, fire hazards, skin burning in kitchens, sharp objects, and slipping.

Road safety.

It protects people (motorists, cyclists, vehicle drivers, or passengers) from dying or injured when they are on the road by removing hazards like texting while driving, and sleeping while driving. through wastes at the sides

Office Safety.

is the process of protecting employees at work from office hazards like keeping the work area clean and tidy, closing all doors and cabinet drawers, and reporting unsafe conditions.

Industrial plant safety.

Industrial hazards include all types of known hazards. adding to them, there are some special processes and applications related to industrial safety:

  • Look Out, Tag Out, Tray Out (LOTOTO). it is a process to ensure and confirm the isolation of the equipment before starting work with it. the process simply is summarised as locking the equipment with a safety lock, putting a tag on it with the isolation information, and finally trying to run it to confirm its isolation.
  • 5S principles. it is a designed principle created to utilize the process. it stands for sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain.
